- In 1909, Honus WagnerΓÇÖs picture was
- printed on one of the first baseball cards
- ever made. The cards were made by a
- tobacco company. Honus didnΓÇÖt like that.
- He didnΓÇÖt want people to think he
- approved of smoking. So he asked the
- company to stop selling the cards.
- HonusΓÇÖs cards were pulled off the shelf
- and destroyed, after fewer than 100 of
- the cards had been sold. Today, those
- cards are extremely valuable. Any of the
- original cards that survived are now
- worth between $100,000 and $500,000
- -- depending on their condition.
